Animal-Assisted Educational Curriculum
This manual is intended for educators, therapists, social workers, and others who work with children and animals and who need specific curriculum designs dealing with Animal-Assisted Activities (AAA) and Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT). Educational subjects covered are math, art, English, science, and reading. Social skills covered deal with cooperation, self-awareness, peer pressure, self-esteem, and anger management. Although these curriculum plans were developed initially for an academic setting, they can easily be modified to fit any teachable moment and the specific animals mentioned in the plans can also be switched to fit whatever animal population is available to the instructor.
We would like to thank the individuals associated with "The Farm" in Carver County, Minnesota. This curriculum could not have been possible without their input and it is our hope that they will discover many more educational and therapeutic uses for the myriad of animals they are blessed to work with on a daily basis. "The Farm" can be contacted through the Carver-Scott County Educational Cooperative in Chaska, Minnesota at (952) 368-8800 or directly at (952) 442-4014.
