Hope is still out there and of all the news ever to come about over a defunct car maker, most would hope that it’s coming back.

Well, in the case of Pontiac it seems like a very unlikely story and to worsen the deal, the beloved (but unsuccessful seller) Pontiac G8 is in for a recall.

Pontiac G8

On top of everything, the recall is of the serious variety, the safety one, as its airbags may be faulty, or rather, unsafe.

This isn’t because the airbags in a Pontiac G8 will fail to deploy in case of an accident or anything of the like but because of good old fashion bureaucracy.

Pontiac G8

Apparently, the Pontiac G8 does not comply with certain federal standards for head injury protection of its passengers.

Pontiac G8s with this problem have all been built in 2008 and 2009, in Australia and they total no less than 38.444 units.

While the affected cars were manufactured in Australia, and the fault was identified in the Land Down Under as well, the recall is in fact focused on Pontiac G8s that have been imported to America only.

Pontiac G8

As far as we’re told, none of the affected Pontiac G8 models have been involved in any accidents and, as a result, no victims or injuries have been confronted with the faulty airbags.

It is pretty remarkable that not even a single complaint has been filed against the Pontiac G8, and yet nearly 40.000 units will have been recalled very soon.

A brand that was killed off by the General Motors cutback that came to life after the automotive industry’s recent fallback still has a burning spirit.

While we’d really love to crack a joke about the Phoenix, and go through the whole Pontiac Firebird anecdote, it’s not going to happen.

You see, Pontiac as a brand, as a car maker is as dead as they get. The customers of the brand however are alive and they’re as loyal as they’ve ever been.

2009 Pontiac G8 GXP

Trouble is, once you can’t buy a new Pontiac, no matter how much of a fan boy you are you really can’t do much about it.

A recent survey found that of the 57,641 Pontiac owners who bought a new car in 2010, more than half, precisely 53.3% stuck with GM’s products.

The remainder split between Ford and Chrysler in somewhat unimportant percentages but it seems that Pontiac’s loyalty is almost as impressive as Saab or Aston Martin’s.

2009 Pontiac G8 GXP

Speaking of imports, about 31 percent of previous Pontiac owners opted for a Japanese creation and some quarter of that even went for some Korean made units.

Many of us have certainly seen the TV show starring David Hasselhoff and his colleague on four wheels named K.I.T.T., short from Knight Industries Two Thousand. Ever since that show went on air, a lot of people wished to have their own K.I.T.T. in the garage, and replicas have started to appear. We want to let you know that one has been spotted on eBay, waiting for it’s bidder.

From what we’ve gathered from the auction page, the base model for the replica is a fully restored 1982 Pontiac Trans Am, having 63,000 on board which is located in the Canadian Woodbridge, Ontario. It features an automatic transmission, a gasoline 400 hp 5-litre V8 engine. The interior is literally full of L.E.D. buttons and lights, which are all functional according to the seller.

If you like what you’ve just read, take a look at the auction under the title 1982 Pontiac Trans Am, from the seller zapper80. It has more photos and even a video of the car’s interior. But you’d better act quick, the auction is set to close on August 10, 19:07 PDT. It can be shipped anywhere in the world.

The Pontiac G8 GXP is powered by a Corvette engine. The 6.0 L V8 can generate up to 402 hp. It will go from 0-60 mph in only 4.7 seconds, which is not bad for a car with 19 inch rims as standard, which not a common accessory.

It seems the Pontiac G8 GXP will be a reasonable priced car; at least, that’s what the general manager from Buick-Pontiac-GMC says. In the matter of shifting gear, the Pontiac G8 GXP will be available in two versions: automatic shift and manual. The six-gear manual shift will probably offer you a shorter throw.

The Pontiac G8 GXP was created because of the success of the G8 and it will be available for purchase in 2009.
