<p>Prices for the new subcompact SUV start at £19,995, and bring it closer to the new Duster Hybrid. However, full prices and specifications are rather scarce at the moment; the early message makes it pretty clear: the Chinese model is said to become a more affordable alternative in the UK`s hybrid segment.</p>



<p>This is not a subtle comparison; the timing is of the essence. For instance, the 2026 <a href="https://www.automotorblog.com/third-gen-2024-dacia-duster-unveiled-110387.html">Dacia Duster</a> Hybrid is available in the UK at £25,095, and comes with 155 ps, while the newly-arrived Tiggo 4 CSH has 201 ps and 310 Nm of torque; and that gives Chery an obvious number to lead with, though the price gap may be the more important one in practice.</p>

The future of the brand also cannot be predicted exactly, and recent statements of the Nissan CEO suggest that the prospect of selling Nissan cannot be ruled out. With the company on the verge of incurring a net loss of $4.2 billion at the end of the fiscal year, March 31, Espinosa is breathing some reality into the situation by stating that the company faces a level of flexibility it has never had before in the industry that is struggling to keep up.</p>



<p>Nissan does not pride itself on its financial misfortunes. Projections of the company that are made in the current fiscal year have indicated a loss marginally less than that the company experienced a year ago, which was 4.5 billion dollars. <p>The recent attempt of <a href="https://www.automotorblog.com/tesla/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tesla</a> in the field of autonomous transport has taken an interesting twist: a Tesla Cybercab was recently seen driving through Palo Alto street (USA) without any steering wheel in sight. The vehicle was seen in a short video posted to Reddit, the first time the car was spotted on the roads under human control, which makes the company question how it plans to roll out the vehicle and adhere to the regulations.</p>



<p>The actual production of the Cybercab started in earnest when, on December 30, 2025, Tesla announced that it was a recap video overlaid with the phrase &#8220;<strong>Started Cybercab Production</strong>&#8221; over the footage of the assembly line in Austin. The company subsequently shared a photograph of the first Tesla Cybercab on the production line a month later, and it was clear that the company had entered the production phase. These statements indicate that Tesla takes the expansion of the vehicle seriously, although consumer sales will depend on the realization of <a href="https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/level-4-autonomous-driving-ai/" target="_blank" data-type="link" data-id="https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/level-4-autonomous-driving-ai/" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">Level 4+ autonomous driving certification</a> that has not yet been achieved.</p>



<p>The Palo Alto video brings in another sense of fascination. Admittedly, without side mirrors and the traditional steering wheel, the car seems to be an actual driverless experience. It has been modified over previous prototypes: it has wider wheel covers, the front and rear bumpers have been redesigned, it has new production grade lights, a frameless window, and a taller tailgate. In the middle of the clip, a man is sitting in the left seat and is observed to be shuffling papers, a minor yet significant detail that highlights the autonomous nature of the Cybercab.</p>

<p>History: Tesla was testing the Cybercab in Giga Texas and on the street, but it was equipped with a steering wheel. Those previous tests were speculative as the company could introduce a consumer-ready model that had a <a href="https://www.automotorblog.com/breaking-news-the-yoke-steering-wheel-is-being-banned-in-china-starting-2027-116198.html" target="_blank" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.automotorblog.com/breaking-news-the-yoke-steering-wheel-is-being-banned-in-china-starting-2027-116198.html" rel="noreferrer noopener">steering wheel</a>, awaiting regulatory clearance. However, the Palo Alto sighting also indicates that the design might have been changed to a completely hands-free version, at least in the initial series of the car.</p>





<p>The regulatory environment in California makes the situation more complicated. California has tough regulations on driverless operations as compared to Texas, where Tesla has had a license to test the <a href="https://www.automotorblog.com/renault-group-tests-autonomous-vehicles-for-public-transport-in-europe-114077.html" target="_blank" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.automotorblog.com/renault-group-tests-autonomous-vehicles-for-public-transport-in-europe-114077.html" rel="noreferrer noopener">autonomous vehicles</a>. The fact that the Cybercab was seen on a Californian road and had no human controls is an indication that Tesla is making a bold move, which may mean that it is intending to stretch its limits as far as what is allowed by the existing laws.</p>



<p>Other than the regulatory obstacles, the design of the Cybercab addresses its purpose. Two seats, a comfort-oriented suspension, and the lack of bolsters to the driver&#8217;s seat make the car appear to be designed to be a robotaxi service and not a family vehicle. Tesla has been indicated in the commentary of its executives to suggest that the first marketplace would be internal: the organization might launch its first Cybercabs on an on-demand <a href="https://www.automotorblog.com/rena-monrovia-when-you-transport-something-by-car-114486.html" target="_blank" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.automotorblog.com/rena-monrovia-when-you-transport-something-by-car-114486.html" rel="noreferrer noopener">transport</a> platform of its own before it would think about expanding to a broader consumer base.</p>



<p>It is unknown whether Tesla will ever provide the general population with the Cybercab. The momentum of the vehicle production process, in addition to the risky test of an autonomous run in California, indicates that the company is keen on speeding up its autonomous ambitions. This driverless prototype will either be seen on the streets of America regularly or continue to serve as a high-profile experiment that Tesla can leverage to realize its big picture. It is only time and the success (or failure) of the regulatory review that will tell.</p>

<p>BMW Welt, the legendary building in Munich, marks its twenty-fifth anniversary since the design itself first became part of the planning process. The architectural design, the 2001 project which was adopted by Coop Himmelb(l)au architectural firm, has expanded way beyond the small anticipations that were set when the project was started. What started out as an 850,000-visitor-per-annum attraction is now receiving over 2.2 million visitors annually, a remarkable growth that confirms the architectural boldness and automotive flair of the building.</p>



<p>The facility houses the customer delivery center of the BMW Group, where every year about 280,000 new vehicles are delivered to their owners. These models cut across the BMW, BMW M, Mini, BMW Motorrad, and even the luxurious <a href="https://www.automotorblog.com/rolls-royce/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rolls-Royce</a> brand, therefore, the webpage is a complete gallery of the variety of brands of the group. Besides the delivery events, the visitors have an opportunity to walk through the exhibition halls where they can see the most recent models, get to know the history of the brand, and even participate in guided tours that could be arranged specifically to the automotive and architecture lovers.</p>

<p><strong>A total of 575,000 <a href="https://www.automotorblog.com/bmw/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">BMW cars</a>, including over 87,000 in the US, are being recalled due to a problem with the starter motors. This recall affects a wide range of models and markets. Also, the problem is present in the Toyota Supra from 2021 to 2023 because it is based on the BMW Z4 platform (G29), which is an affected model. The problem arises when the starter wears down too quickly, which stops it from starting the engine.</strong></p>



<p>BMW has stated that the expected percentage of vehicles that are now experiencing problems with the engine starter is &#8220;much lower&#8221; than 0.1% according to the company&#8217;s estimates. On March 24, owners will be informed about the recall, and dealers have been directed to replace the starting motor at no additional cost to the customer.</p>



<p>On top of everything else, BMW claims that the starter motor has the potential to spark a fire, whether the engine is operating or not.</p>

<p>Originally exhibited symptoms of malfunction in September of last year, the starter motor at the center of the <a href="https://www.automotorblog.com/recalls/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">recall</a> was supplied by Valeo. Following the fires in two 2022 3-Series and one 2023 4-Series, BMW launched an investigation. A more in-depth investigation of the component itself was initiated by that question.</p>



<p>A close inspection of the parts showed that the electrical relay chamber was filled with metallic debris as a result of harsh wear and tear. A different 3-Series also caught fire last month and it was also discovered to have the same issue.</p>



<p>BMW has acknowledged that 87,394 vehicles in the US will necessitate replacement for starter motors, but it has not yet released a comprehensive breakdown of impacted vehicles by market.</p>



<p>The recall has been issued and BMW dealers have the green light to replace the starter motors for free starting March 24, 2026.</p>

<p><strong>The automotive world could not stop talking about a slick, futuristic yoke steering wheel. In 2021, a refresh of the <a href="https://www.automotorblog.com/tesla-model-s-p100d-fastest-production-sedan-world-98449.html" target="_blank" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.automotorblog.com/tesla-model-s-p100d-fastest-production-sedan-world-98449.html" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tesla Model S</a> and Model X saw a radical, chopped-tiller design, which attracted both the attention of drivers and technology enthusiasts. The idea was not confined to the electric-vehicle pioneer and Lexus was the first car company to use a similar yoke in its US range, and a few Chinese manufacturers then did the same on the domestic market.</strong></p>



<p>However, new news reports suggest that this trend will end soon due to the decision of the Chinese government. The <a rel="nofollow" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ministry_of_Industry_and_Information_Technology" target="_blank" data-type="link" data-id="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ministry_of_Industry_and_Information_Technology" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ministry of Industry and Information Technology </a>(MIIT) reported an impending ban on yoke-style steering wheels next January first. This follows the publication of a draft of a new compulsory national standard by the ministry GB11557-202X, which is aimed at safeguarding drivers against injuries due to vehicle steering systems. The new code will supersede the existing standard, GB 11557 -2011, which has not been revised in more than ten years.</p>



<p>The impact tests on the regulation are much stricter than the tests that used to apply. Ten points of impact on the steering rim are now mandated by the MIIT officials, also including the midpoint of the weakest point and the midpoint of the shortest unsupported point. These considerations simply cannot be on a yoke-style wheel, and thus it is virtually impossible that the design can comply with the new safety requirements. Moreover, statistics published by Chinese authorities point to an alarming fact: 46 percent of injuries sustained by drivers are a direct consequence of the <a href="https://www.automotorblog.com/e85-e86-bmw-z4-steering-problems-causes-how-to-fix-112185.html" target="_blank" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.automotorblog.com/e85-e86-bmw-z4-steering-problems-causes-how-to-fix-112185.html" rel="noreferrer noopener">steering</a> mechanism. Due to the fact that a yoke has a thinner cushion between the hands of the driver and the structural frame of the car, there are increased chances of severe injury in case of an accident as compared to an ordinary circular wheel.</p>



<p>The prohibition is placed next to other recent regulatory actions in China, such as the criminalization of concealed electric door handles following a series of accidents—another thing <a href="https://www.automotorblog.com/tesla/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tesla</a> popularized. Combined, these actions indicate a larger initiative by the Chinese government to increase regulations of aspects that blur the line between high-tech novelty and effective risk.</p>



<p>In the meantime, no restrictions have been declared outside of China. In the United States and Canada, Tesla is still sold with a yoke steering wheel in the Model S and <a href="https://www.automotorblog.com/us-tesla-model-x-60d-can-74000-91315.html" target="_blank" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.automotorblog.com/us-tesla-model-x-60d-can-74000-91315.html" rel="noreferrer noopener">Model X</a>, but the company is soon going to end production of these models. <a href="https://www.automotorblog.com/lexus/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lexus</a>, also, still gives the yoke-equipped RZ, upgraded this time to drive-by-wire, which many regard as a breakthrough in automotive ergonomics.</p>



<p>The implication of the Chinese ruling is less that the Chinese have suddenly gone against innovation and more that the priorities around safety have been rebalanced. Regulators and governments around the globe will have to weigh the innovation of radical controls and interfaces with the more mundane, daily reality of road <a href="https://www.automotorblog.com/safety/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">safety</a> as car manufacturers keep playing around with unorthodox controls and interfaces. The impending yoke ban in China could become an eye-opener to other manufacturers who might want to take a risk in other markets.</p>
