When many companies are turning to electric cars, General Motors has decided to pour resources into its V8 engine to ensure it remains. With the intention of investing $888 million in the creation of a next-generation V8 engine, the manufacturer plans to make the investment at its Tonawanda site near Buffalo. This is a significant change from previous patterns and GM’s biggest single expenditure at an engine plant.

GM intends to install its new V8 engine in full-size trucks and SUVs by the year 2027. This engine claims to deliver increased power while also improving fuel economy. There are currently two V8 engine sizes available for General Motors vehicles: 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter. Both current V8 engines from GM, the 5.3-liter and the 6.2-liter, are quite powerful, with the former producing 355 horsepower and the latter 420 horsepower.

GM intends to maintain efficiency even as it increases performance. The business uses new approaches to burning fuel and handling heat to cut down on both emissions and fuel use. GM is committed to creating a V8 with less pollution, though it is not clear if electrification will be part of the new model.

GM is investing $579 million at its Flint Engine Operations in Michigan as part of the strategy. The block, crank, and head of the new sixth-generation engine will be machined here before it is assembled. GM will invest $47 million in block casting at Defiance Operations in Ohio and $12 million in Roh for intake manifolds and fuel rails.

Through launching this new V8 engine, GM informs us that its big vehicles will carry on the eight-cylinder tradition into the 2030s. It works alongside GM’s plan, first announced in 2019 and reaffirmed in 2024, to sell only all-electric cars by the middle of the coming decade. Yet, GM’s head, Mary Barra, has said that the company is willing to meet the demand for gas cars past 2035 and consistently changes to suit its consumers.

The state of New York is now giving up to $16.96 million in tax credits to the project, underlining the cooperative effort to support economic growth and save an important part of the automotive sector. With the change to sustainability in the industry, GM is stressing its V-8 investment to ensure the lasting presence of the engine’s legacy in its vehicles.

The inauguration of the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, is about to take place, and big names in the automotive industry are ready for it. Ford, General Motors, and Toyota, among the biggest automobile makers in the world, have agreed to participate and fund the event by pledging the event its biggest share of one million dollars as well as providing cars.

This move is not merely an appreciation of light of the President-elect’s political plans but a purely business calculation to establish relations with the forthcoming administration that will shape the course of the auto industry in the future. Trump has declared his position on indigenizing the American auto industry and introducing tariffs on imports from Mexico, Canada, and China, something that may have a bearing on car makers assembling automobiles across North America and internationally.

Arguably, it is indeed very rare that we hear of CEOs of two of the biggest automobile giants, Ford’s Jim Farley and GM’s Mary Barra, concordant with the new administration and poised to make their voice heard on policy shifts they consider unfavorable. This is particularly noteworthy because there are reports that Trump wants to remove the federal tax credit for electric cars – a decision that could devastate firms such as Tesla and has implications for firms like Ford and GM which have staked a lot on electric cars.

It seems that the automotive industry has always been one of the essential sectors of the American economy and also partially defined world trade relations. Many top companies are these days becoming the favorites of the global leaders, with the world turning into a global village. To its credit, by funding Trump’s inauguration, Ford, GM, and Toyota are actively positioning themselves to be part of those conversations.

There is the political-business balance—a thin line that is very well balanced by these companies. That way, they are investing in a historic event for the country and also ensuring themselves success in this new political order.

In the new year, as Donald Trump begins his presidency, everyone is waiting to see what his administration holds for the automotive sector. The political environment can be full of changes and chaos, but these companies are willing to stay and keep on being top market shapers. In this way, they’ll be able to have a strong say in matters regarding policies once the new administration assumes office.

Although it may sound like a good deed that major automobile manufacturers wanted to be associated with Trump, Ford, GM, and Toyota committing $70,000 to the inauguration is much deeper. It is long-term planning to counter their future position in the industry, tackle the dynamics of the modern day industry, and fit the future objectives of American business and international relations. The automotive industry, like the entire world, is observing this and waiting to see how it happens, and these are the corporations that are on the front lines.

Bulletproof is a hallmark of the GMC 3.6, making it one of the most reliable American-made engines ever made. However, its Achilles heel is the need to change its engine oil.

Here are some problems to be aware of when buying a vehicle with this engine.

Table of Contents

Excessive Oil Consumption

GMC 3.6 Water Pump Failure

GMC 3.6 Timing Chain Cover Leaks

Failure of the Timing Chain On The GMC 3.6 Engine

Excessive Oil Consumption

It’s no secret that a GMC 3.6 engine can use up to 1 quart of oil per 2,000 miles. GM claims that this is normal consumption, but oil change intervals can cause problems.

The problem is that the engine will run out of oil at 1 quart per 2000 miles before it lights up with the change engine oil light. Although the low engine oil light might still be visible before this, it’s very common for drivers not to have enough oil between oil changes.

Cam phasers are the first to go without oil when oil is low in these GMC engines. The timing chain is the second component that can be stripped of oil.

2025 GMC Acadia

GMC 3.6 Water Pump Failure

Coolant is circulated throughout the engine by a water pump. The water pump is responsible for maintaining engine temperatures within the specified limits. High pressure can cause damage to the internal components of these water pumps, including the gaskets and seals.

The pump must work harder to maintain coolant flow as internal components wear down. Gasket leaks or seal leaks can cause pressure drops in the system, again making it more difficult for the water pump to work properly.

The GMC 3.6 engine’s water pump can go out at a distance of between 80,000 and 100,000 miles. There are signs that a water pump is failing, and they can be caught before your engine overheats. One cause of this is that the GM 3.6s have a “weep hole” which is a small drain hole. Coolant can leak out of the weephole if the water pump begins to leak internally.

To prevent overheating, we recommend that you replace the water pump as soon as coolant leaks are detected. Overheating can cause internal damage and cracking of head gaskets. If not dealt with promptly, it can lead to many other problems.

GMC 3.6 Timing Chain Cover Leaks

The “front cover”, also known as the timing chain cover, protects and lubricates your timing chain. The cover attaches directly to the engine block and protects the timing chain against road dirt and debris. It also helps to prevent the timing chain from slipping off its gears. The cover’s primary purpose is to lubricate your timing chain with engine oil.

GM’s timing chain has a metal front cover that is fastened to the engine block using a gasket. The gasket is exposed to heat because it sits up high on the engine block. Excessive heat causes the gasket to wear down and oil to seep out of the cover.

Failing gaskets will not only leak oil but also let air and engine pressure leak, which could lead to performance issues. It is possible to crack a timing cover, but most problems with this engine are caused by gasket failure. It is crucial to replace the gasket immediately if it fails. Not only can it cause performance problems, but it can also lead to low oil levels that can further damage the engine internals.

Failure of the Timing Chain On The GMC 3.6 Engine

Low oil levels are the main cause of timing chain problems. The timing chain is the first component to become oil-starved when oil levels drop. When timing chains don’t receive enough oil, the friction causes the metal to heat. When timing chain metal temperatures increase, the chains can stretch, causing them to jump teeth.

The timing chain tensioner can also make the problem worse. The tensioner maintains the correct tension in the chain to prevent it from becoming loose or jumping gears. The tensioner is hydraulically actuated, meaning it uses oil pressure to function. Low oil levels can cause the tensioner to lose its ability to maintain enough tension in the chain.

Timing chain guides can be worn down by lack of lubrication.

Many drivers report their GMC 3.6-liter engine reaching 200k miles when oil levels were maintained properly. It is important to remember that once you reach this mileage, there will probably be a few maintenance items such as water pumps, timing chains, and sensors.

Low or bad engine oil can directly or indirectly cause many of the issues listed. This is all you need to be concerned about. Enjoy the journey ahead!

In the auto industry, lots of carmakers are now shaking hands in order to create the most sophisticated technologies that would be the very foundation of their future models. For that matter, Honda and GM are also partnering to build-up a fuel cell system which will be implemented on their future models, starting 2020.

The project will take shape at a new facility called Fuel Cell System Manufacturing located in Michigan, with production to start in about three years. The whole investment plan refers to a total of $85 million, which will be handled by a new board of directors from both carmakers, including three executives, a rotating president and a rotating chairperson.

Speaking about the joint venture and its plans of developing such an astonishing system, Toshiaki Mikoshiba, CEO at Honda North America stated in a recent interview:

“This foundation of outstanding teamwork will now take us to the stage of joint mass production of a fuel cell system that will help each company create new value for our customers in fuel cell vehicles of the future.”

“The combination of two leaders in fuel cell innovation is an exciting development in bringing fuel cells closer to the mainstream of propulsion applications,” said Mark Reuss, GM executive VP, Global Product Development. “The eventual deployment of this technology in passenger vehicles will create more differentiated and environmentally friendly transportation options for consumers.”

This won`t be the first time Honda and GM would venture in such a daring project, both companies also being involved in the development of other hydrogen storage factories which would create more cheaper solutions in terms of fuel-efficiency for their future models.

GMC has always developed durable, bulk, rugged and high-performance pickup trucks and the all-new Sierra HD is announced with increase performance and much more advanced mechanics.

From a visual standpoint, the 2017 GMC Sierra HD is looking fabulous with the company`s signature surrounding the body, while the powertrain is the car`s main highlight. The most important features that refer to the new styling add-ons refer to the custom air intake system, as well as the more prominent hood scoop.

But to achieve such impressive power, the company had to make some serious adjustments, fitting the pickup truck with a lot of up-to-date mechanics.

We are looking here are at a new cylinder block and cylinder heads, increased oil and coolant-flow capacity, new electronically-controlled turbocharger, B20 bio-diesel compatibility, custom rocker cover, updated solenoid duel system, new camshaft and so on.

All these contribute to the pickup`s impressive power, meaning that the 6.6-liter turbo-diesel Duramax V8 engine is now capable of delivering 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque, which means a 19 percent torque more than the present V8 power. This means that 90 percent of the engine`s power is available between 1,550 rpm and 2,850 rpm, which is the perfect timing for the most difficult towing.

The pricing details or the performance figures are not yet revealed, but we should expect fresh details in the upcoming period.

The model has been planned alongside a joint venture created with SAIC and Wiling (SGMW) and is destined for the China market alone, the model mixing the “traditional styling” of the brand with a “youthful and modern appearance”. The appearance is also highlighted by the double-U-shaped front end, along with a large upper grille.

The Baojun 310 comes with four variants, with prices to start from RMB 36,800, the equivalent of $5,521 and going up to RMB 49,800, the American equivalent of $7,472, and comes with a wheelbase of 2,550 mm, and is said to be “the longest among hatchbacks in its class”.

Inside, the cargo space is set at 200 liters, but with the rear seats being folded down, the overall space can reach 1.000 liters.

The Baojun 310 is also coming with surprisingly interesting features inside, such as the high-res eight-inch LCS screen, GPS navigation onboard, Bluetooth, cruise control, ISOFIX child safety seat mountings, power sunroof, heated side mirrors, ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution, rearview camera and more.

In the engine department, the China-spec model comes with a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated engine, developing 81 horsepower and 116 Nm of torque, with a combined fuel-consumption of 5.3L / 100 km.

GMC car manufacturer is on a constant move, developing and releasing massive, impressive and exquisite trucks, just the way Americans like it.

After playing around with the 2016 GMC Sierra All Terrain, that model that looks extremely hot with the plethora of versions, the carmaker wanted even more from it, and created the standout All Terrain X Edition.

Everything is eye-catching on the massive and aggressive truck, such as the LED headlights, the bed-mounted sport bar, side mirrors, along with the 18-inch black wheels, all wrapped with the Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac MT rubbers, sized 265/65R18SL front and rear. But one of the most standout features is the high-performance exhaust system, which provides the truck with an extremely wild engine roar.

Just like the other All Terrain models, the X one makes no exception and also adopts the Z71 off-road suspension, all-wheel drive system with the Eaton locking differential, Rear Park Assist and so on.

Under the hood, the 2016 GMC Sierra All Terrain X packs a 5.3-liter V8 engine with a fresh 365 horsepower, which is just about enough to handle all kinds of muddy and snowy terrains. Prices are still yet to be settled in spring, when the truck will hit US dealerships.

GMC released a teaser image with the 2017 Acadia last week and now the exquisite model can be observed in its plenitude at the 2016 NAIAS, in Detroit. We are dealing here with a model that have received significant changes in terms of design and performance, along with the latest technology inside.

The most notable changes are the use of the high-strength and press-hardened steels, which reduce the car`s weigh by 700 pounds. Also, the new Acadia is lighter because of the reduced footprint, the model being 18.2 centimeters shorter, 8.9 centimeters narrower and 9.9 centimeters lower.

Even so, the cabin still has enough cargo space, the model now coming with a six- or seven-seat configuration.

In the engine department, the 2017 GMC Acadia packs two engines, the 2.5-liter engine with 194 horsepower, available at 6,300 rpm and 190 lb-ft of torque, available at 4,400 rpm. On the other hand, the higher 3.5-liter V6 delivers 310 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 271 lb-ft of torque.

Both are hooked to a six-speed automatic transmission which sends the power to the front corners. An optional all-wheel drive configuration is also available.

In terms of safety features, the 2017 GMC Acadia is packing the Front Pedestrian Braking, Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Alert and so on.
