Gumpert is a relatively new supercar maker that wants to stand up on its own and which didn’t fall into the trap of compromising vital aspects of their products in order to please reviewers.

The German supercar maker is only concerned with engineering their car in such a way that it blows the opposition’s doors off with speed and performance.

Gumpert Tornante Concept

So far, they’ve done a pretty good job since the top end versions of their cars have done nothing but set the pace around race tracks around the world. There is a bad side though.

Their cars are pretty expensive and tend to sell a bit too slowly for the company to do well. The results is that the finance world didn’t forgive them for slow payments.

It was about two months ago that Gumpert were announcing that they filed for bankruptcy. The follow-up story is coming out today and it’s one we’re very pleased about.

Gumpert Tornante Concept

The Germans found a new investor to take over the company’s debt and keep it solvent. Allegedly there was more than one interested party and in the end the company had to pick their favorite.

We’re guessing they picked one that didn’t want to mess with their plans too much. Further more, inside sources claim that the Apollo model will live on.

Interestingly, the company’s spokesman refused to comment on such a deal being made and instead told us an official announcement about the company’s future will be made soon.

Gumpert Tornante Concept

This is possibly just a precaution method that doesn’t create any issues for the mysterious investor by inflating company share prices unnecessarily.

The current economical climate does seem to have hit the automotive enthusiasts with above average income quite hard recently.

Even though every company in the world seems to be making a highly luxurious product nowadays and every high end brand is getting increased sales, Gumpert isn’t so fortunate.

Gumpert Apollo Enraged

The German high end performance car maker has just filed for bankruptcy on a basis that’s very simple to explain. The sales are just very low.

Technically speaking, the German company isn’t doing so bad as it managed to build up a bit of a fan base and is actually appreciated.

Not a lot of people who actually own a Gumpert find reason for complaint but the problem is that there’s actually not that many of them around.

Gumpert Apollo Enraged

This is the card the company’s manager will likely play their hand on as they try to tempt its investors into a cash infusion.

Though it sounds a little unusual, there’s a pretty good chance at it happening for real. It’s not a sure thing but there’s still plenty of hope in it.

This comes as reassuring news as Germany recently lost Artega and Melkus, two of its sport car makers to poor sales and financial woes.

Gumpert Apollo Enraged

It would be real shame if Gumpert went under as well. After all, they do make a car that blitzes the Top Gear test track and just about anything similar as well.

Oh, and we’re still waiting on that Tornante concept to become a reality.

Gumpert Apollo

The modified Apollo that you can see in the video is a version that meets all the requirments to legally run the streets and developes 789hp squeezed from the 4.2-liter bi-turbo unit borrowed from Audi. Compared to the standard Gumpert Apollo which develops 641hp and also to the Sport version developing 690hp, the modified model tested at the Monza circuit offering 789hp is the most powerful model.

Gumpert Apollo

Moreover, some unofficial sources claim that this model is the only Apollo in Italy. Thanks to the following video you can actually see and feel the experience of driving a 800hp German supercar as there are some shots from the interior while the driver is running with more than 250 km/h.

Additional shots from the exterior are also there, thus, you can see how the supercare behave on the circuit.

While earlier this month we were able to see the first teaser of the new Tornante concept, a prototype that will see the daylight at the Geneva Motor Show, now we have the opportunity to get an idea of how the German concept will look in the rear.

Gumpert Tornante concept

Combining these two teasers we can get an overall image of the new concept developed by the Altenburg-based car manufacturer. From the first details we know that the German concept gets a 4.2-liter V8 bi-turbo unit able to offer plenty of horsepower, about 700 to be more exactly.

Gumpert Tornante concept benefits from German engineering but when it comes to the exterior we know that it has been drawn by the Italian people from Carozzeria Touring Superleggera.

The series model that will be inspired from this concept is scheduled to enter the market somewhere next year, more details in this regard being available after the concept debut at Geneva. A carbon fiber monocoque is also fitted on the new Gumpert concept in order to give it the necessary strenght but also lightweight.

The Germans from Gumpert are about to introduce a new supercar in the range but until then they will reveal a new concept, called Tornante, at the Geneva Motor Show next month. This is the first teaser released by the Germans for the new supercar but there are also a bunch of interesting details to analyze.

Gumpert Tornante concept

The new model will benefit from a lightweight aluminum chassis and a carbon fiber body while under the bonnet the Germans announced a 4.2-liter bi-turbo V8 able to develop 700 horsepower. However, now we talk about the Gumpert Tornante concept, not about the series version.
