Power and Performance

The standard rear-wheel-drive model comes with a single electric motor, producing no less than 225 HP and 350 Nm of torque, while the all-wheel comes with 99 hp up front and 214 hp at the rear, for an overall of 312 horsepower and 605 Nm of torque. Both feature the same 77.4 kWh battery pack, helping to achieve a mile range of 451 km for the standard and 400 km for the all-wheel-drive model.

Finally, the top model features two electric motors with 214 hp at the front and 214 at the rear, and a total of 605 Nm of torque, which is quite an impressive figure. And with the standard Boost Mode system on, it can reach 100 km/h in an impressive 4.0 seconds.

Let`s Not Forget the Exterior

While we have displayed the car’s impressive high-tech gizmos and a plethora of safety suits, we feel obliged to add a couple of things about the gorgeous exterior as well. And as we can see in the media gallery, the 2022 Genesis GV60 Electric looks fabulous with a wide choice of colors, such as Hanauma Mint, Atacama Copper, Sao Paulo Lime, Atacama Copper Matte, Carbon Metal, Melbourne Gray, Royal Blue, Vik Black, Matterhorn White or Uyuni White.

The downside is that only 400 vehicles will be available at the moment, and each buyer will have to secure the order with a $2,000 deposit. However, if there will be more interest in this particular model, Hyundai Australia will cover the demand with an extra of 11,000 vehicles. For the moment, the model is available for online sales, but from October 13, the model will also be available to local representatives around the country.

Speaking of the arrival of the new IONIQ 5 in Australia, Hyundai CEO, Jun Heo stated in a press conference that the model would be a real blast, as it represents “the leading edge in zero-emissions battery-electric vehicles.”

So, two variants are up for grabs. The entry-level $71,900 RWD with 160kW, as well as the more powerful AWD with 225kW. Customers will be getting the latter for around $75,900. Rumors also have it that a much more potent N version will be around the corner soon.

As for mile-range, the flagship can run around 430 km/h, being helped by a 72.6 kWh battery.

Both the entry-level and the top-of-the-line IONIQ 5 AWD will be offered with a Vehicle-to-Load system, a 3.6kW output for charging accessories and other external devices, as well as 400-volt and 800-volt charging platforms, with up to 350kW DC ultra-fast charging features.

The 2.5-liter base engine is teamed up with an 8-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels whereas an all-wheel-drive option is also available.

The turbocharged variant, on the other hand, produces an impressive 277 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to a brand-new eight-speed wet clutch transmission that improves shifting as well as the vehicle’s economy.

The 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe also gets improvements in the interior with the 2.0-inch infotainment display being replaced with an 8.0-inch display as standard while a 10.3-inch display is available as an upgrade. Many driver safety features also make their way to the Santa Fe making it a comprehensive contender in the SUV market. 

According to the images, the stylish front fascia has a restyled grille which almost resembles a honeycomb design. The Hyundai badge sits on top with aggressive lines adds more character to the front-end. The air intakes look like they mean business and so do the LED daytime running lights that give the car an overall ‘mean’ look. The sharp lines follow on the sides as well with the side mirrors and the windows accentuating the complete design. The rear-end has a dual exhaust system and more of the prism style design. Completing the look are the huge 18-inch wheels that suit the car’s aesthetic.   

The Korean automobile manufacturer has not released the specifications of the N Line especially details regarding the powertrain. It is expected that the same 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine will go under the hood of the N Line that made its appearance in the previous Elantra Sport. Perhaps, a better-tuned engine would give the car improved performance over its predecessor. The Elantra Sport reportedly made 206 hp, so expect a bump in that figure probably by a few horses.

The engine’s power will go to the wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission or an 8-speed gearbox. The final decision rests with Hyundai. Unfortunately, the N Line will not have a manual gearbox, which is a disappointment for some petrolheads.    

Pricing of the Hyundai N Line has not been released yet but it is expected to be in the premium range.

It is also the case of the all-new 2018 Tucson SUV which Hyundai recently released in Europe. We are dealing with a facelift model which also slight changes inside the cabin. However, the SUV`s main highlight remains the new system under the hood.

Speaking of which, Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Vice President Marketing and Product of Hyundai Motor Europe, has also stated that:

“With our new mild hybrid powertrain system for our best-selling model, we are further expanding the company`s electrification strategy to make clean technologies accessible for even more customers. It will be available in combination with more engines in the future, as part of our highly diverse mix of electrified solutions.”

The SUV`s powertrain consists of a 2.0-liter diesel engine plus a 48-volt battery pack that provides less fuel consumption and reduces CO2 emissions. The powertrain also comes with other important features, such as LDC Converter (Low Voltage DC/DC), an inverter, as well as a Mild Hybrid Starter Generator (MHSG).

To achieve the best level of performance and fuel economy, the system automatically switches “between mechanical use of the engine and energy recuperation.” This is also achieved thanks to the car`s four-wheel drive system and 186 horsepower output.

More than that, the mild hybrid Tucson is also equipped with a six-speed manual which proves to be more efficient than the eight-speed automatic, and that`s because it better cuts off fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 7 percent than a normal powertrain. However, it is the eight-speed automatic that proves to be more convenient, yet not that fuel-efficient as the manual setup.
