<p>After a 33-year absence, <a href="https://www.automotorblog.com/lancia/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lancia</a> is in the World Rally Championship again with the new Ypsilon Rally2 HF Integrale.</p>



<p>The Lancia brand has not competed in the World Rally Championship (WRC) in over thirty years, but they have since come back officially and they have come back with the new Ypsilon Rally2 HF Integrale. WRC is the most valuable race in the world. The WRC2 championship is the key support in the WRC for the Rally2 cars, and the new model of competition will be participating in that.</p>

<p>Following a 33-year hiatus from the World Rally Championship, the Italian manufacturer is preparing for its return to the game. Now is the time to get familiar with the brand-new Ypsilon Rally2 HF Integrale, which comes with 4-wheel drive, following the presentation last year of the Ypsilon Rally4 model, which came with two-wheel drive. The WRC2 championship, the main support series in <a href="https://www.wrc.com/en" target="_blank" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.wrc.com/en" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">WRC</a>, is specifically designed for automobiles built to Rally2 standards, and it is the race in which this vehicle will participate.</p>



<p>The new competition model has a bespoke body with a number of extra aerodynamic characteristics. The new Lancia Ypsilon Rally2 HF Integrale features a 1.6-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged <a href="https://www.automotorblog.com/gm-invests-almost-1-billion-dollars-in-a-new-v8-engine-114872.html" target="_blank" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.automotorblog.com/gm-invests-almost-1-billion-dollars-in-a-new-v8-engine-114872.html" rel="noreferrer noopener">engine</a> capable of producing up to 300 horsepower. This car will have all-wheel drive, mechanical front and rear differentials, and a five-speed sequential gearbox, as the rules say it should.</p>

<p>Lancia has been in the World Rally Championship (WRC) and has won at least 10 world titles in the constructors&#8217; championship. The business has won these fights because of famous cars like the Delta Integrale, the Stratos, and the 037.</p>

<p>One such version was presented to the world at the Geneva Auto Show last month and today it finally went on sale. </p>

<p>Asking 23.400 euro (in Italy) for the entry level Delta S, it will be produced in limited numbers with it being targeted at &#8220;a male metropolitan customer looking for distinctive style”. Also available with GPL, this entry level Lancia Delta S will use a 1.4 liter engine capable of 120hp.<br />

<p>You can also opt for a twin turbo multijet diesel engine that will produce 190hp, but it will cost you 26.400 euro. For the same amount you can also get the 120hp 1.6 liter multijet engine, also diesel.</p>

<p>They&#8217;ll be releasing it completely at the Frankfurt Motor Show this month and while there&#8217;s a bit of heritage and history issues with Lancia, there&#8217;s something very important to know here.<br />

The original plan would have seen Fiat put out a Chrysler 200 range in Europe under the Lancia brand but after the businessman discussion took place they changed their mind.</p>

<p>A solid business case could not be made for the sedan or possible estate version since the cost of adding a diesel engine wouldn&#8217;t have made much sense.</p>
<p>But for the convertible there&#8217;s no such needed powerplant. The Lancia Flavia, previously known as the Chrysler 200 Convertible will be animated by a 2.4 liter gasoline powered four cylinder engine.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s a powerplant that generates 175 horses and since it comes with a lovely six speed automatic transmission, a pretty face and a bit of exclusivity we may be talking about  one hell of a boulevard cruiser.</p>
<p>Too bad it had to be badged as Lancia Flavia. It&#8217;s not that big a problem to try and save the brand but this is almost murderous to its heritage.</p>

<p>A new name that&#8217;s just as impressive came along with the Italian body and it is the Stratosferica.</p>
<p>While making a &#8220;new&#8221; conversion look like an older car isn&#8217;t the finest of ideas, I&#8217;d say we should look easy on the coachbuilder&#8217;s indiscretion with the styling choice since the Austrian built toy is its own car.</p>

<p>Underneath, there&#8217;s no serious change and, frankly, there&#8217;s no real reason for one to interfere. The Audi sourced 2.0 liter turbocharged four pot is still there only it develops 310 horsepower and they&#8217;re all aimed at the rear wheels.</p>
<p>The pricing Montenergy stamps onto the conversion that gets you a KTM Stratosferica is just 12.000 euros or the equivalent of 17.300 U.S. dollars.</p>

<p>Things were going pretty well for Pininfarina, Mr. Michael Stoscheck and the new Lancia Stratos. Just as they were inching towards the end where profit was to be found, Ferrari got in the way.</p>
<p>According to some very recent reports, something ticked off the infamous Italian stallion and Ferrari does not wish to see production of this great heritage car take place.<br />

You might think so what&#8217;s the problem? It&#8217;s not like everybody agrees with new supercars being built. The genuine problem here is that a denial of the New Lancia Stratos from Ferrari is awfully important.</p>

<p>One of the problems would be how they denied the production of Lancia Stratos with Ferrari suppliers. Since underneath the new Stratos most of the components come from the Ferrari 430 that is a serious mater.</p>
<p>The weird thing about the Ferrari components and suppliers being put off by the very popular brand is how even if they are convinced to still aid production those would find themselves seeing another problem.</p>
<p>That would be how Pininfarina, the design house that took care of coming up with the new design for the Stratos, tested it and eventually built the car cares greatly for their collaboration with Ferrari.</p>

<p>This means that Pininfarina will not be making the car if Ferrari disapproves just as they&#8217;ve been telling the company that does the building and the first owner Michael Stoscheck.</p>
<p>Ferrari hasn&#8217;t given us a reason for why they stand against the building of the new Lancia Stratos but this is a bit of a surprise for pretty much everybody.</p>
<p>We thought that with <a href="http://www.automotorblog.com/luca-di-montezemolo-has-a-go-in-the-new-lancia-stratos/">Ferrari&#8217;s CEO</a> getting a ride in the new Stratos and loving it this would never happen.</p>
<p>Whatever the reasons, people would say that as a result of this decision it would mean a lot of work for people to find alternative suppliers and carbon fiber molders to take care of the production.</p>

<p>I however doubt that those 40 buyers that are already interested would be happy to lose the Ferrari related heritage of the original Stratos so easily.</p>
<p>Speculation of Lamborghini stepping in seems equally doubtful but I do hope a new Lancia Stratos will end up living once more and as the real deal.</p>

<p>Moreover, Chrysler&#8217;s Grand Voyager will be introduced too in the same time, the American model keeping its name in the Europe and changing only the badge.<br />

<p>These are the models that are going to meet the public in March while a revised version of Lancia Delta will be available soon. The new Lancia Delta brings a new 1.6-liter diesel unit able to develop 105 horsepower but also other aesthetics improvements. To fastly run through the specs of the other models that are going to be revealed, the new Thema will be offered with a 3.6-liter Pentastar unit but also with a 3.0-liter diesel. The Lancia Grand Voyager will pack the same 3.0-liter 283-horsepower unit but also the 2.8-liter diesel which are available for the U.S. version.</p>

<p>In terms of engines you can opt for a diesel 1.3-liter Multijet unit, a petrol 1.4-liter Multiair engine but also a smaller Twinair unit with a displacement of 0.9-liter cubic centimeters which offers, of course, better fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.<br />

<p>At a glance we can note the rear door handles which are positioned higher than normal but that&#8217;s not a first however. The new Lancia Ypsilon will join the range in June and will be sold together with the current generation for some time. In case you don&#8217;t know, the Italian model will debut of course at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.</p>

<p>Sadly, while it&#8217;s a great new version of a great old car, it&#8217;s also a one off, a unique vehicle made by Pininfarina for a very rich man who&#8217;s a big fan of the original Lancia Stratos.<br />

The rich owner of the new Lancia Stratos, a chap called  Michael Stoschek seems to be quite the nice guy as he decided to actually make a production version of sorts.</p>
<p>Apparently the New Lancia Stratos will be available for 40 lucky folks that already expressed desire and confirmed that they have the means to buy one.</p>

<p>Since the development of the car cost about 3 million euros (roughly 4 million USD) spreading that over a number of 40 cars shouldn&#8217;t prove to be very difficult.</p>
<p>In fact, Michael Stoschek stands to make a bit of a profit, along Pininfarina on offering a production version of the new Lancia Stratos.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s for him to know and for us to find out but the two entities have announced a price for the new Lancia Stratos of just €400.000.</p>

I don&#8217;t have anything against the Chrysler 200, I think it&#8217;s a massive step forward from what the Sebring used to be but I somehow don&#8217;t find it good enough for Lancia yet.</p>
<p>Not that my opinion is going to matter on this story. So there we go, expect to see a new Lancia at the Geneva Motor Show. It will most likely be called the Flavia. </p>

<p>The last Lancia Flavia was made sometime in 1975 and the next one would be revived at the Geneva Motor Show sporting a new badge and a new front grille to make it look somewhat different from a Chrysler 200.</p>
<p>In order to feel somewhat more European-ish, the <del datetime="2011-01-16T16:29:31+00:00">Chrysler 200</del> Lancia Flavia may receive a lineup of diesel engines and possibly manual transmissions.</p>

<p>That sort of detail is still pretty gray so you may actually want to wait for the motor show.</p>
